Ross Statement on President's NSA Reform Remarks
U.S. Rep. Dennis Ross (FL-15) issued the following statement regarding the president’s remarks on reforms to the NSA:
“The president’s address today confirms that not only are there serious concerns with NSA’s practice of collecting personal data, but also that it is a bipartisan concern. I introduced H.R. 2603, the Relevancy Act last June because of these very real and very serious issues.
“Maintaining strong national security practices is vital to each American and to our country’s future. It is also important that we do not relinquish our individual freedoms. Conducting mass surveillance on all records from every Verizon subscriber went far beyond the scope of the law and I believe is an unnecessary invasion of our freedoms and privacy. I have urged House leadership for open debate and a vote on key NSA reforms. I’m hopeful that we can continue to review our security practices and further those which best support our freedoms and security.”
