Ross Announces 2014 Congressional Art Competition Deadline for Local High School Students
U.S. Rep. Dennis Ross (FL-15) announced the dates for the 2014 Congressional Art Competition for Florida’s 15th Congressional District. This competition, which the office of Rep. Dennis Ross is hosting in conjunction with the Polk Museum of Art, is for high school students in grades 9 – 12.
Wednesday, March 12 – Friday, March 14 (8 a.m. – 5 p.m.): Artwork must be delivered to Polk Museum of Art
Saturday, March 15: Closed judging
Wednesday, March 19 - Friday, March 21 (8 a.m. – 5 p.m.): Pick up of unaccepted work
Saturday, April 12 – Sunday, May 18: Exhibition of student artwork at Polk Museum of Art
Saturday, May 3 (11 a.m.): Awards Reception
June 2014: Winner of the Congressional Art Competition for Florida’s 15th Congressional District’s artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C. for one year
“There are many talented students across central Florida,” said Ross. “It’s comforting to pass a small piece of home that is displayed in the Capitol as I walk to vote.”
• Every year, one student from each of the 435 Congressional Districts is chosen as a winner of the Congressional Art Competition.
• According to the U.S. House of Representatives, since the competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.
