Ross Votes to Support U.S. Troops and Fight Terrorism
WASHINGTON, D.C., Mar. 8, 2017 – U.S. Rep. Dennis A. Ross (R-FL-15), Senior Deputy Majority Whip, made the following statement after voting to pass, H.R. 1301, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act:
“The singular most important duty of Congress is to provide for our nation’s defense. At a time when we are threatened every day by ISIS and radical Islamic jihadists, we must support and rebuild our military to prevent harm to our country, its people and our allies. This legislation provides responsible funding to ensure our troops have the resources they need to remain the very best in the world, and to fulfill the mission of protecting the U.S. and our way of life. Enacting this essential legislation into law is paramount to our security.
“This legislation provides for key readiness programs that prepare our troops for combat and peacetime missions, keeps our military on the cutting edge of defense technology, and outfits our military force to conduct successful operations. It also ensures full benefits for our troops, military families and retirees and maintains a strong, robust active and reserve force by fully funding a 2.1 percent pay raise for our troops.
“Our military is the most advanced and well trained the world has ever seen not just because of the latest in technology and weapons systems, but because of the men and women who volunteer to stand in defense of our country. I am proud and honored to represent thousands of servicemen and women in my district, and I will continue to provide them the tools they need to protect our great nation.”
