WASHINGTON, D.C., Sept. 10, 2015 – U.S. Rep. Dennis A. Ross (FL-15), Senior Deputy Majority Whip, released the following statement after voting to pass H. Res. 411, Finding that the President has not complied with section 2 of the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015, which holds President Obama in violation of the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act (the Act) because the side agreements made between Iran, other parties and the President do not constitute the agreement as defined by the Act that the President signed into law, and states the period for review by Congress of nuclear agreements with Iran under the Act has not commenced because the agreement has not yet been fully transmitted to Congress:
“I am absolutely appalled that the President agreed to these side agreements with Iran. Congress and the American people have not been allowed to review these agreements, which is a direct violation of the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act that the President signed into law. These side agreements detail how the International Atomic Energy Agency will carry out inspections necessary to understanding just how close Iran has come to designing a nuclear warhead. This information is essential to determining exactly how long it would take Iran to rush to a fully functional nuclear weapon, and we are entitled to know this information, not only by law, but for the purpose of keeping America and the world safe.
“These side agreements also have the potential to deny inspections of Parchin, a military base where Iran’s nuclear warhead work took place, as well as allow Iran to collect its own site soil samples and deny interviews of scientists involved in Iran’s nuclear weapons work. Promises of anytime, anywhere inspections are blatantly false. No matter how much the President and his Administration tout this as a deal, there is no deal here at all. This a roadmap and free pass for Iran to continue building a nuclear bomb. The President has completely and grossly overstepped his powers and is deliberately breaking the law, and I will continue to hold him accountable and defend our great nation and its people.”
