LAKELAND, Fla., July 20, 2017 – U.S. Rep. Dennis A. Ross (R-FL-15), Senior Deputy Majority Whip, is excited to announce that Florida’s 15th Congressional District is participating in the 2017 Congressional App Challenge (CAC), a software application competition for U.S. high school students:

“I strongly encourage high school students throughout my district to participate in the Congressional App Challenge so they may broaden their STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education and computer-based skills. These skills are essential for economic growth and innovation in our country, and jobs in these fields are in high demand and well-paying. In order for the U.S. to remain competitive on a world stage, it is crucial we invest in our youth and help them acquire these valuable skills. This program is a fun and modern way for students to pursue these skills, and to be recognized for their efforts and hard work. I look forward to seeing the exciting and creative software applications District 15’s talented students produce.”

The Challenge submission period will run from July 26, 2017, through November 1, 2017. The competition is open to all students who meet the eligibility requirements, regardless of coding experience. Students of all skill levels are highly encouraged to participate to learn how to create their own apps. Winners of each congressional district will be selected by panels of judges drawn from each local community, and honored by their Members of Congress. The winning apps will be featured on a display in the U.S. Capitol building and on the Congressional App Challenge website.
