Keeping Our Promise to Reform Our Broken Tax System
Dear Neighbor,

As we approach our national “Tax Day” (April 18), many Americans, including myself, are faced with anxieties and frustrations over our broken tax system that desperately needs reform. However, Congress and the Trump administration are working hard to fulfill our promise to the American people to simplify our tax code so taxpayers can keep more of their hard-earned money in their pockets.

Comprehensive tax reform will provide our entrepreneurs, job creators and small businesses—those who keep our economy running—the tools they need to fuel economic growth and deliver opportunities for all Americans. Long-term tax certainty is severely overdue. We must, and will, deliver on this priority.

Americans will pay more than $5 trillion in federal, state and local taxes this year. Our pro-growth, pro-taxpayer overhaul will be the first significant tax reform since the 1980s. We are starting from scratch to develop a plan that will provide middle class tax relief and make American businesses more competitive. Our goal is for most Americans to be able to file their taxes with a form so simple it could fit on a postcard.

Our tax reform will rein in the improper, biased, and politically motivated actions of the IRS and focus on customer service. The current GOP tax reform blueprint proposal will create an estimated 1.7 million full-time jobs, raise average household incomes by 8.7 percent after taxes, and allow families to save nearly $5,000 more of their annual income. In Florida alone, the proposal will add more than 97,000 jobs and allow Floridians to save an average of $4,417 each year. As we work with this blueprint to fulfill our promise to the American people, I strongly encourage everyone to take a seat at the discussion table so we can continue having an open process that benefits all Americans before making any final decisions.

Although we are focused on enacting comprehensive tax reform to benefit all Americans, we are also making progress on fulfilling our promise to repeal and replace the failures of Obamacare. This includes abolishing healthcare-related taxes and penalties that siphon billions of dollars from American taxpayers, eliminating the burdensome individual and employer mandates, and preventing abortion providers from receiving taxpayer dollars. We will ensure there is a seamless transition and offer tax credit relief to those in need so no one has the rug pulled out from under them. All Americans deserve to choose their own affordable, patient-centered healthcare coverage, and we will provide nothing less.

President Trump and the Office of Management and Budget are also hitting the ground running by reorganizing agencies and rolling back bloated government spending that wastes your valuable tax dollars. By focusing our spending on national and border security, veterans’ healthcare and school choice, President Trump is fulfilling another promise to put Americans, families and public safety first. Simplifying our tax policies will further help combat fraud, improve compliance and filing accuracy, and place the U.S. on a more competitive platform internationally.

As a former small business owner and a recipient of the Tax Fighter and the Taxpayer Hero Awards, I know pro-growth policies that foster the American entrepreneurial spirit are the best avenues we have to create jobs and advance innovation. I promise to keep fighting for you and families across our community to simplify our broken tax code, ease compliance burdens, and lower taxes on hardworking Americans.

Please remember, if you need assistance with the IRS, or any other federal agency, do not hesitate to contact my district offices. We are here to help you.

As always, please continue to write, call, and email your opinions to my office. I could not effectively represent you in Congress without the advice of my constituents. It is an honor and a privilege to serve you in Congress.

May God bless you all, and may God continue to bless the United States of America.

Your Congressman,

Dennis A. Ross
